DIGITAL CENTRES IN BURUNDI
Ecole Independante Centre:
On 5 December 2022, Burundi Education Foundation (BEF) took a significant step toward ad- vancing digital literacy by donating 20 desktop computers and 5 laptops to Ecole Ind ́ependante ́ de Bujumbura. This contribution served as the foundation for the renovation of the school’s computer laboratory, transforming it into a functional and modern learning space. Recogniz- ing that technology is essential to quality education, BEF also funded nine months of internet connectivity, ensuring that students could access reliable online learning materials, conduct research, and build essential ICT skills.
The new digital centre now enables learners to explore educational platforms, improve their digital competencies, and prepare for an increasingly technology-driven world. This initiative reflects BEF’s broader mission of reducing the digital divide in Burundi by equipping schools with the tools and connectivity needed to empower students academically and professionally.
Universit ́e du Burundi – Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry:
As part of its commitment to expanding digital literacy nationwide, Burundi Education Founda- tion (BEF) supported the Universit ́e du Burundi – Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry by donating 29 laptops to establish a fully functional Computer Centre.
Inaugurated on 20 August 2025, this centre enhances the learning environment for university students by improving access to research tools, data analysis software, and online scientific resources. It strengthens both teaching and research, enabling students to acquire critical ICT skills essential for modern academic and professional success.
The creation and expansion of Digital Centres in every province of Burundi is a core pillar of BEF’s ICT development programme. ICT has transformed the way humanity learns, com- municates, and accesses information. By equipping institutions like the Faculty of Science, BEF aims to reduce the digital divide, empower students with technological skills, and support the growth of a digitally capable generation across Burundi.
